Packaging Design

Experience

Five seconds on a shelf. Make them count.

Packaging is the most honest test of a brand's identity. There is no salesperson, no context, no explanation. Just your product and everything around it competing for the same pair of eyes. In that moment, design either works or it does not.

Good packaging does not just catch attention. It communicates value, builds recognition, and earns trust — often before the product inside has been given the chance to speak. At DesignOccult, we treat packaging as a strategic surface, not a decorative one. We work closely with brand strategy to ensure that what is on the outside accurately reflects what is on the inside.

What we work with

We design packaging for a range of product categories and formats — primary packaging, secondary packaging, labels, cartons, pouches, bottles, boxes, and retail display units. Whether you are launching a new product or redesigning an existing range, we approach each project with the same rigour: understanding the product, the category, the shelf context, and the customer.

Packaging is the only marketing channel that your customer physically holds in their hands. Most brands still treat it as an afterthought. The ones that don't tend to win the shelf.

Frequently
asked questions

What is the difference between packaging design and label design?

Label design is one component of packaging design. Packaging design encompasses the full structure and visual system — shape, material, print finish, hierarchy of information, brand expression, and how the product presents across a range. A label is a surface. Packaging is a decision.

Do you work with printers and manufacturers?

We work closely with clients to prepare production-ready files for print and manufacturing partners. We understand print processes, material constraints, and finishing options — and factor them into the design from the start, not at the end.

Can you redesign our existing packaging without changing the product itself?

Yes. A packaging redesign can significantly change how a product is perceived without changing anything about the product. We have done this for brands that needed to move upmarket, reposition to a new audience, or simply bring their packaging in line with a refreshed identity.

How important is packaging consistency across a product range?

Critical. When products share a shelf, visual coherence across the range signals brand maturity and builds recognition. Individual packs that feel disconnected undermine each other. We always design packaging ranges as systems, not isolated items.

We are a food brand launching in India. Where do we start?

Start with understanding your category and your customer — who they are, where they shop, what they are currently choosing, and why. Packaging strategy begins there, before a single shape or colour is decided. We help clients work through that thinking before we design anything.
